Non-Traditional Therapist Alma Spears

Alma has always wanted to be a child advocate and, for most of her educational career, she thought that meant law school. Her experience working with youth and families in a transitional housing program helped her realize that she had a natural ability to build relationships with people who have experienced trauma. That triggered her pursuit of a clinical degree, resulting in being a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in trauma.

“As an immigrant, naturalized US citizen, and someone whose first language is not English, I am positioned to assist others who are facing or have faced similar struggles with racism, exclusion, and violence because of what they look like. I treat everyone with respect, regardless of race, gender, or social status.”
